The turntable is situated alongside the engine shed at the rear of the Gisborne Station marshaling area. It was used a lot when the Palmerston North - Gisborne rail-line was in full commercial use, as can be seen below with DA1502.
The turntable was over-hauled with new sleepers and fittings in 2020/2021 by GCVR, but is rarely used now.
DA1502 was built in 1966.Rebuilt in 1979 and re-designated DC1574, then given the TMS number of DC4248.
It was reported to be in use by Auckland Transport Service in 2011, then stored in Lower Hutt from 2015.
It was sold to Mainline Steam in 2018.
